Spanish Guitar Videos Feedback

We have quite a bit of feedback from launch versions of the Spanish Flamenco Videos.

I think people like them a LOT.

The comments below have all been posted by me, but are from purchasers who said it would be ok to quote them.

They are the usual high-quality lesson we have come to expect from Mike and Jerry, and the only ones like it I’ve found.
As with most new styles I have issues with the correct strumming.
These videos break down each part with concise, and easy to follow instructions and show clearly what is required in order to play the pieces correctly.
I’ve tried learning from listening to music, and watching competent players. Until now, any real instruction has been unavailable.

This set is excellent, clear and easy to follow at a good pace.
The biggest frustration for me is my own impatience to learn. I have a semi acoustic guitar and really need to obtain a spanish/classical one to get an authentic sound.
I have learned to stop myself and practise each little bit over and over before going onto the next bit.

I’ve tried learning this style before with books – but they are no good without a tutor.

I’ve tried other sites, but have found mostly just rubbish. I’ve trailed through dozens and this site is the best and most importantly – it’s fun.

These are Unbeatable value for the price, but PLEASE tell us what guitar models/elec guitar settings/strings, etc., you are using!!

My carpal tunnel problem means seriously getting to grips with Spanish/classical style is out. Your videos are a nice compromise for me.

I always learn your stuff well/easily and stick with it.

Mike and Jerry a fantastic job as ever.

I’ve been trying to learn this type of guitar for well over a year and these videos help massively. Most other learning materials assume you have an intermediate understanding of music, whereas with these you can just open and start playing. I find this style of learning so much better, than going through page after page of chords, before you can even play a note.

It’s helped me pick it up much faster and because of that, you can’t help but get excited, which means you practice more and you get better.

I’ve got other learning materials, but with those I’m still learning the basics after a year.
Books, DVDs (although some are pretty good), youtube, friends,

They seem easy to learn, and they are well done.
With other methods I’ve tried it just seems too difficult, so I don’t even try. I don’t even know where to start, except with your course it’s pretty straight forward.

It gives me hope and a starting place.

They are excellent, as are all of Mike’s videos.

The rigidity of there is only one way to play as far as fingering and pick with these lessons you can make them work for you regardless of what style you play from Delta blues to classical.

I only got them a short time ago and have already made strides toward playing several pieces.
Just about every other method failed me on one way or another. The addition of the “play through” helps to seam all of the bits of the song together.

These are fine for video and tab quality – but maybe more focus on some of the more difficult sections (although I just started playing again so I know my being rusty doesn’t help) my qualty of playing and being slower to pick up on this (due to my having not played in the past 2 years – so my fault there!)

These have very much helped me to expand – the only other piece I had was your short piece of “Spanish Guitar” from earlier lessons so this is nice to have to expand on.

I picked up on folk/rock style finger picking and finger picking patterns very quickly. I guess the hardest to pick up on are just those that use odd chords that have very difficult and very streched fingering.

    To Paul Fadzil of Liverpool,
I would suggest you look for an old second hand nylon strung before you buy a new one
I picked up a really cheap guitar at a car boot sale with only one nylon string on it.. I gave it to my kids tp play with years ago (so they would to leave my own guitars alone.) I fished it out of the loft and strung it up just to do Mike’s Spanish stuff with and was AMAZED at the beautifull mellow sound and unbelievably easy lower neck action while learning and playing these pieces. It sounded and played really good, better than anything I’ve ever played, even when “sneaking” a strum on guitars I would never be able to afford in guitar shops. . ( as we all do!) This old guitar is batered but its the ducks nuts..
I had it examined by an expert and its a ‘Vincente Tatay of Valancia’.. dated about 1925 (Evidently both Pete Segar & the Director of London Philharmonic have a classic Tatay and treasure them.. Its worth quite a bit of money.. and it would still have been in the loft gathering dust but for these lessons.. Thanks Mike & Jerry, They sound brilliant played on it btw.. I may put the Strat on E-bay apply for a job in a Spanish bar now…

Mike & Jerry, Just downloaded this amazing Spanish Flamenco stuff, its a real bargain. Also the power tabs are a great addition. I’ve played them all through and they sound great, Is that Jerry with the posh voice?, be careful Mike he’s taking over!! Great package, great price, absolutely unbeatable product.

    Hey Mike, Hey Jerry,
thank you for the great spanish/flamenco videos. And again you did a great job. I started 1 year ago with the free videos. Then I bought the klassical video lessons. And now the spanish pieces. They are simple and it makes a lot of fun to play them. I played the first piece in one day. Excelent illustrated. I’m looking forward for more interesting video lessons…

Flamenco was the first guitar style I learned, aged 11, in Madrid. My teacher taught me Mike Herbert style, song by song, written in his own tab method. Unfortunately, over the years the painstakingly written songs were lost forever, not to be replaced.

I hardly ever played, except for a few chords here and there, until about 5 or 6 weeks ago with this method. I have learned about 4 songs well, and am greedily working my way through about 4 others. So it takes me about a hour or more to practice. I am loving it. I am in “hog heaven” as they say. I love Mike’s taste on most of the music.

I guess I learned to read tab without really knowing it. I can pretty much sight read tab, as long as I get to listen to the song first. So I am in heaven. I haven’t downloaded these yet, as I am currently struggling with Tears in Heaven. My struggles have to do with knowing where the words go with the music. It is not at all obvious. I have spent several hours at least trying to figure this out. If anyone has figured this out, I would love to have the words written onto the tab sheets. Mike? Anyone? I am begging!!

Great videos, as always. When are you going to teach how to play the intro on each of the spanish/flamenco videos? Really Cool Stuff.

    Thanks Steve

What can I say? Pure excellence! I have previously purchased various other material from your amazing song/material pool to select from, and all for less than the price of a top-of-the-range Capo! So in terms of value for money…..BRILLANT! The quality of the material has certainly provided me too with a lot of confidence, and I am actually learning properly after having the desire for the past 30 years, and at my own pace too! I previously checked at the cost of private tuition, which is not cheap! Keep the excellent work up guys!
